Celebrating Women this month

Dear phenomenal woman,

This month is for you, we pay tribute to our women who marched for us, we salute the women who have become pillars in our communities, and we celebrate every woman.

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.
— Maya Angelo

In celebration of women and womanhood, Usiko hosted a beautiful women’s day event, on 9 August, to honour those making a difference in Jamestown and surrounding communities.

“Many of our community caregivers do not have access to or are not educated about self-care. And being in this business, we often give of ourselves until we function like a car with a tank that's in reserve. We never take the time to replenish, refresh, reboot,” expressed the event coordinator, Simoné Hendricks Wareley

The event placed value on these incredible, selfless women with a mini pamper, a delicious three-course meal, an encouraging message from Leana Classen about self-care and a photo session. The ladies were glowing with gratitude, and truly embraced and received the love that was showered upon them.

Aunty Ana, a mentor in the community, expressed her gratitude for being able to experience a spa day. Like others she doesn’t have the money or access to massages, manicures or going to the salon. With the service of the Usiko ladies, and ladies who volunteered their time on the day we were able to bring a little self-care to them.

There were laughs, smiles and dancing - pure joy expressed by our caregivers. May we always be mindful of our women and find every opportunity to care and honour them.

As a reminder and affirmation:

  • I am awesome because I am a woman.

  • And today I will succeed.

A big thank you to Leana, Imanuella, Monique, Chandré, the lovely ladies from Bosch Hair Studio and the ladies from Usiko. And to the Beneke family for the beautiful venue and catering. The day would not have been possible without you.
